The Work

The Marathon is a monochromatic, high-energy 16x20 acrylic tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle. This portrait is an exploration of the artist through the spectrum of deep and light blues, a specific color choice that shifts the focus from simple likeness to the cool composure and deep internal strength that defined his public persona.

The composition is heavily textured, utilizing aggressive palette knife work to create a weathered, layered feel on the subject's face. This technique is juxtaposed against tight, intricate brushwork that clearly defines his face. The white, non-representational background acts as a clean void, pushing the vibrant blue energy of the portrait forward.

Artist’s Note: It’s about the vibration of a legacy. We know the history, but I wanted to paint the stillness—the focus that keeps moving, no matter how the landscape around him shakes.
